He has blonde, fine hair. Mom says no buzz cuts, but he looks like a hedgehog. The top and crown of his hair refuses to lay down. Stylists say let it grow and add hair weight before cutting, but as soon as we cut it, same problem all over. There has to be a solution somewhere. Please answer seriously and avoid the quick ball cap fix---HATE CAPS. But out of control hedgehog mohawk is not really working for us either,

i just read the last answerers answer and i was shocked!
you're mom is right in saying no buzz cuts clippers ruin the texture of hair...i used to look like apollo golden lock my parents gave me a military cut when i was like two and it became a dirty blond wavy thick mess
if i were you i'd have the stylist cut it super short but using scissors!!!! it will really be a better answer in the long run

His hair will lay down with time, you all just have to get over it. My son's hair stuck up for almost 2 years...it's just something that some hair does...use some gel if you need to. It'll lay down when he's older.

My youngest son's hair did the same thing when he was very young. I used to try the sport gel trick and yes it worked, but was hard to upkeep. Perhaps your son has a few natural cowlicks that will always be that way so in that case there is really nothing you can do about it.
If Mom says no buzz cuts then she will have to let his hair grow out longer if that's what the stylists suggest, but then she will have to deal with people thinking he is a little girl when they see his hair longer! Either way has it's pros and cons!
I ended up giving my son a buzz cut, even though I wasn't so big on doing that. He looked adorable with this cut, and it took care of the problem temporarily until he got a little older, and then his hair finally began to flatten out naturally on it's own. We told him he was getting an "army guy cut" because he loves anything military, and my husband gave him more of a military cut. This really does look cute on little boys and there is nothing wrong with them having this type of hairstyle. Please consider it, I was glad I finally did!
