Any tips on using a hair straightening tool?

alright well -- this is an answer I gave previously on a hair straightening question, and it pretty much says all I know from experience...(-=

Make SURE you use hydrating and protective products. Here's what I recommend (they've all worked amazingly for me):

- CHI protective spray (spray on dry hair and let sit for a minute before ironing)

- Biosilk Silk Therapy shampoo and conditioner

- Biosilk Silk Therapy serum (it's the actual "silk therapy" thing. It moisturizes, smoothes, and protects against heat) (use after shower on wet hair)

- Matrix sleek defrizzing serum (use on dry hair at the end of everything to smooth)

Make sure you don't shampoo your hair too often, because it will dry it out. I would recommend conditioning every day and shampooing every other day or so. You may want to invest in occasional oil/extra moisturizing/repairing treatments and products, because straightening does take a wear on your hair. Try to avoid using the iron as much as possible...like if you are just going to have a day at home, skip ironing that day.

If you already have some hair damage, I would recommend Biosilk Fruit Cocktail shampoo and conditioner...my hair was damaged and I used it for a while and it worked great. The Biosilk products are pricey, but I have found them to be TOTALLY worth the extra $$$. So far, they are the only products I've tried that actually work! The Biosilk products are known for being extra moisturizing, so unless you have oily hair they are great when you use a lot of heat styling. Also, they supposedly are "activated" by heat (so says the bottle), but even when I don't use heat on my hair it seems healthier and more "silky." I've tried a lot of diferent products and these have really, really impressed me.

(I know this is getting long...)

also, for best results straighten your hair slowly layer by layer. I pin layers up and start from inside and go out. Take the iron down slow along the hair, instead of clasping and pulling it down quickly over and over.

Hope this helps and you get your hair looking great! (-;

run it through your hair twice...

Use a hair protector before you straighten this will prevent the damage straightening tools leave.

you can do curls with it and flips that looks really cute

becareful you can burn yourself i did

Use a heat protectant on your hair first and set the straightener on its highest setting, because the more passes you have to make over you hair, the more damage you're going to cause (but do not, absolutely do not, hold the straightener in one place).

Section your hair off in layers and straighten it bit by bit. It's a little awkward at first, but it gets easier.

you know how people get fly aways, well when vusing the straight iron curl it in a little and it will blend the fly aways in with your hair

Any tips on using a hair straightening tool?

start with the lower layers of your hair and work your way up. i have thick hair so i normally do each section in about three layers. it really depends on your hair though. oh and dont burn yourself with it. it really hurts. trust me. i know =[

Straighten from underneath first, in small inch wide sections! use dividing clips and protective serum or mousse for your hair

Any tips on using a hair straightening tool?

make sure your hair is dry and you use a good conditioner or serum. use a CHi brand straightener

Any tips on using a hair straightening tool?

straighten it slowly and more then once

Any tips on using a hair straightening tool?

use a heat activated protecting spray before straightening

about two inch thick straightener plates can also be used to curling your hair. i use a straightner to curl my hair rather than a curling iron. just look it up on google or something on how to do it you can find out information everywhere.

you should avoid using the straightner too often though it damages hair a lot and causes a lot of breakage.

and dont go too slow while straightening it fries hair

use creams that are meant to help your hair with heat damage. Also, do not hold it on the same spot long because it can burn your hair and if it is bad enough it can break that piece off. Plus find a good hair straightener.

divide your hair into 2 or 3 thin layers. you can get your hair way straighter that way ;)

Any tips on using a hair straightening tool?

pay attention to what the other people above me said, and don't go too near your roots. maybe about two inches away. don't clamp the tool too hard on your hair, but lightly glide it through two or three times until you acheive your desired look.

use a hair protecter so you dont fry or damage your hair. if that doesnt help, get your hair wet, and then blow dry it while brushing it straight, then flat iron it. and if it doesnt work, then do it a second time.

First of all you should make sure you get a good straightener because some crappy cheap ones can ruin your hair. You also might want to buy some product for you to put in your hair before you straighten it so it doesn't dry out or become unstraightened. First clip most of your hair to the top of your head and just leave a small amount of ahri and straightene that first, then let down some more hair and straighten that, then after your done continue until you've done all your hair. If you need to go over hair thats not completely straightened. Good Luck (:

The best straightener is a Sedu flat-iron. The second best is a CHI. but i would deff. go for the sedu before the chi-sooo much better(works great). and the sedu is great from curling your hair also. There are also alot of great Sedu products the bring out the color of your hair, prevent heat damage, give shine and shimmer, and more! they truly are great straighteners--go to Folica.com to see it. its $99.98. free shipping. =)
