Any hairstyling tips for poofy, thick, curly hair?

When my hair is damp and drying, the curls look great and I'm happy. Once it's completely try, it's so poofed out that I can barely leave it down for 5 minutes before putting it up. I know my hair can probably look nice with the right cut. I was wondering if anybody has/had shared my dilemma and wants to offer any advice on taming the beast? Any techniques or product suggestions would be amazing.

Hey, I had the same problem for years then i cut my hair with long layers which took alot of the dead weight off. I also found this stuff called BioInfusion olive oil leave in conditioner and olive oil serum, (to control the frizz) ( walgreens or CVS). And i swear my hair has more defined curls then ever, and doesnt have they hard crunchy feeling like you get with mousse, gel, or hair spray. Good Luck to you!!! Hope this product works for you as well as it does for me Ciao.

Use some kind of gel or pomade to put a little coating on it, this will keep it from frizzing out. And only brush with a wide tooth comb. Brushes and little combs are hair suicide for curly hair. You can also use a diffuser on your hairdryer on low heat until your hair is about half way dry, this defines the curls but I would still use a little gel or mousse while doing this too. You can get a diffuser at walmart or sally beauty for less then $5.

I have the same exact hair problem!! This summer I discovered a product made by Aveda. It's called Be curly. I use the shampoo, conditioner and the curling lotion. There is also a Be curly frizz control that I have yet to try. After I shower, I comb out and towel dry my hair really good, then I apply my makeup while my hair is air drying. Sometimes I go outside and let it dry for a few mins shaking it around a litte. Then when your hair is damp, apply some of the curling lotion to your hair from top to bottom and scrunch it up with your hands. Your curls will not be so big and puffy and will look great!
