Any tips on how to keep my hair color from fading and what hair dyes are best ???

okay so my hair is like naturally light brown and about 3 weeks ago i dyed it a very dark brown, i liked it a lot but then it faded pretty much back to its normal color, im going to dye it again this weekend. Anyone have any suggestions on what dye to use or how to keep it from fading again ? should i use an even darker color or keep it in longer ??

I have the same problem as you, i have mousy brown hair which i dye dark brown.

What i usually do is dye it a few shades darker then i would like and then it should fade to the desired colour you want.

You could use any of the products specially made for coloured hair, or i recommend you dye your hair using wella colours as they are kinder to your hair and last long aswell as being shiny.

Also, how long do you leave your hair dye on?

If you dye your hair permanent the longest you should leave it on is 45 minutes because after that the dye stops working. Also, the next time you wash your hair don't panic when a load of brown comes out. This is just useless colour that has been left in your hair, at a salon you can request to have an anti-oxidant washed through your hair because this extracts the useless colour so it doesn't look like it is being washed out the next day.

If you use semi-permanent i advise that you switch to permanent because generally semi-dyes are very poor and do not last long.

Wash it infrequently, like every three or four days, in cool water. Use shampoo specifically for color-treated hair. Sunlight will fade your color as well.
