Any tips for growing your hair out reeeeeaaaal long?

try a deep conditioning treatment at a salon ever couple of weeks...if you're on a budget i suggest buying some penetrating conditioner and doing a treatment at home by leaving it on for 25-30 mins underneath a conditioning bag (kind of like a perm bag)...lightly heat it up with a blow dryer works the same as sitting under a dryer at a salon...do this weekly...also you might wanna get a trim probably every 4-6 weeks because even if you don't use hair products (gel, mousses, sprays, hair dyes) or styling tools (curlers, flat irons, blow dryers) your hair is sustaining environmental damage so if you get split ends you should trim them before there is more breakage and the cuticles %26amp; cortex(the proteins that make hair fibers also store pigments that give your hair color) of your hair is damage and it falls off because that's when it's at it's worse...this could be cause by the water, the sun, or even brushing your hair too hard! Avoid using rubber bands to keep your hair up or putting your hair in tight braids because even these simple styles can create damage...chloride in pools are just as bad...well, the list goes on...

1) use a wide toothed comb: so you dont break the hair

2) try to only shampoo your hair every couple of days: the oils from your scalp are good for hair

3) condition a LOt

4) get a trim every now and then, cuz if you dont then the bad ends will break and from there the hair will keep breaking and breaking until it becomes short

5) cut down on the blowdrying, completely if you can. dont use the heat setting

Use a good shampoo and conditioner with vitamin E. Limit your use of styling products and the hair dryer. Also, be sure to get it trimmed every six to eight weeks to keep the split ends at bay.

My hair is about down to my waist right now. I keep it long and beautiful with a pro-vitamin time shampoo (pantene is a good one) and a good conditioner. I took alot of vitamin E to help it grow and stayed away from dyes and chemicals. It is really healthy right now and I can style it really well cause of it. You will still need to get a small trim once in a while to keep it growing., prevent split ends. Hope this helps!!!!

As you found out the hard way, hair is very fragile. Id say stay away from dyes and other chemicals from now on. Also if you trim your ends as you grow it out every few months or so it will keep the ends looking healthy and full. (just keep the trim down to about half an inch or so, your hair will grow about an inch to two inches every couple of months so taking a little off will be like two steps forward one step back) And if you must dye your hair there are healthy options with no harsh chemicals, visit Peta2.com for product info.
